If you’ve got brand new pod lights for your rig, and you’re suffering from analysis paralysis, don’t worry! You’re not alone. There are tons of options, but we’ll walk you through which placements are best for you, with the pros and cons for each of them.
On the Bumper
If you’re looking for a simple installation, this is going to be your best bet. Tying into existing wiring is simple, and there’s minimal work involved to get them installed. If you’re wondering where to get started, we’d recommend checking out the TYPE S TERRA PRO 6" Flood / Spot Light) . They’ll look aggressive, and with the included mounting hardware, you’re looking at a quick and easy install that'll have you lighting up the trails like never before.
In the Bumper
For a more factory-looking installation, you could consider mounting your pod lights in your bumper. There are plenty of aftermarket bumpers on the market that will allow you to add extra lights. If you’ve still got a factory bumper, you can replace the existing fog lights with something a little more purpose built. It’ll take a little more time to install (and a little more money, if you’re adding a new bumper to your build), but if the cleaner, more incognito look is what you’re going for? It can’t be beat. Try the TYPE S TERRA PRO 2" Flush Mount Flood / Spot Light (Interchangeable), they’ll sit flush, and keep a closer-to-factory look, while offering a major upgrade when it’s time to hit the trail. Side note: if you’re looking for actual fog lights, don’t use pods. We make LED fog light bulbs as well.
On the Pillar
For more directional light, and a reasonably straightforward install, consider a pillar mounted pod light. You’ll get plenty of forward and lateral visibility, a great aesthetic, and because of the wider spread on the lights, you can probably save a few pennies by needing fewer lights overall. The TYPE S TERRA PRO 4" x 2" Spot Light is a great choice for pillar mounting, thanks to the seriously compact size, and included hardware. The adjustable beams give you options - whether you’re lighting up a campsite, or still trying to get there after a long day in the dirt.
Above your Windshield
Seriously aggressive looks? Check. More difficult installation than anything we’ve mentioned so far? Also check. That said - it’s doable. You’re just looking at longer runs for your wires, and a little more work to clean it up and keep your wires tucked away. If you’re willing to do the work, we’d recommend the TYPE S TERRA PRO 4" Square Flood Light.
You can get a really wide light spread and some extra visibility from mounting a row of pod lights over your windshield, but proceed with caution. In some places, it’s illegal. Make sure you know the rules where you live and drive before you go this route. Another thing to be extra careful with here is your mounting angle. Improperly mounted lights over your windshield can just reflect light off of your hood back at you. It’s annoying. It makes night trails harder than they need to be. Don’t ask how we know.
Rear Mounted
In addition to extra light when you’re tearing up the trails, sometimes you need the power of the daylight sun to back you out of an obstacle (whether you’re aiming for the party line again, or skirting around it altogether - we don’t judge). When you need extra light back there, you’ll be thankful to have a reverse mounted pod light. The TYPE S TERRA PRO 2" Flush Mount Flood / Spot Light (Interchangeable) is a perfect choice. You can go with either a bumper mounted option, or a roof mounted one.
No matter how you choose to mount your TYPE S Terra Pro Pod Lights, you can rest assured that they’re weather proof and built to last. You’ve got options when it comes to single spot lights and combo beams, all the hard stuff is done. We handled that, but the installation and good times are up to you.
